And the Royal Baby Name Is…

The royal baby name of the newest prince has finally been announced: Meet Prince Louis Arthur Charles! Pronounced “LU-ee”, the name chosen by Prince William and Kate Middleton is something of a surprise, according to People. English oddsmakers had their money on Albert and Arthur.

In case you missed it, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka Will and Kate) welcomed the newest prince at 11:01 on the morning of April 23rd. The couple presented the eight pound, seven ounce baby boy on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital just hours after he was born. Kate looked amazing per usual, with perfectly blown-out hair, a red frock with lace peter pan color, and requisite heels (hey, all in a duchess’ day’s labor, I guess).

The new royal baby is fifth in line for the throne, after his grandfather Prince Charles, his father Prince William, his brother Prince George, and his sister Princess Charlotte. His arrival bumped his uncle, Prince Harry, down one spot in the line of succession.

Shortest Hospital Stay Yet

In her typical fashion, the Duchess didn’t stick around the hospital long. She checked out a mere seven hours after she delivered! That’s her shortest post-delivery hospital stay yet. According to People, she did stay overnight after Prince George arrived, who was born in the late afternoon. But the Duchess stayed only ten hours after giving birth to Princess Charlotte. (Of course she has plenty of staff and medical help immediately available to her at home in Kensington Palace should she or the baby need anything).

Royal Baby Name Background

Now back to the name: according to People, Louis is thought to be a tribute to the prince’s great-great-grandfather, Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg, the father of Queen Elizabeth’s hubby Prince Philip. (Louis is also one of big bro Prince George’s middle names). Middle name Charles is of course in honor of Prince Charles, the paternal grandfather, and Arthur follows family tradition: both Prince Charles and Prince William list Arthur as a middle name.

Welcome to the world, Prince Louis Arthur Charles! You truly have a name worthy of a royalty!

I’m a married mom of two living in Seattle, WA. I have a eight-year-old little boy, a second grader! He’s a fairly reserved kid and all about Legos and Minecraft. I also have a little girl who turned four at the end of February. She’s a tiny thing but a big ham; we call her our clown. They’re a lot of work but also a ton of fun. I love to eat, cook, and run (in that order). But at the end of the day, give me a spot on the couch and a little bit of TV or a good book, I’m done!
