Artist Sculpts Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian’s Unborn Babies

For years, artist Daniel Edwards has profited off our society’s obsession with celebrities and especially their famous offspring. You might remember him for his sculpture of a naked Britney Spears giving birth on a bearskin rug, or a similarly nude Angelina Jolie breastfeeding her twins. With both America and the UK welcoming “Royal Babies” this summer, of course Edwards couldn’t pass up the chance to sculpt the children of “womb mates” Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton.

Edwards debuted the piece, titled “Special K and Little Grape (Baby Kimye and the Royal Heir),” in an LA art gallery and on his official Facebook. The two bronzed angels–one with a crown–are curiously sexless, making Edwards seemingly the only person who hasn’t tried to guess if either couple is expecting a boy or a girl. It’s creepy, to be sure, but you have to remember that his commentary is on the demand of people who would want to see a sculpture like this. (That said, I have to draw the line at his other piece of art, “Suri Cruise’s First Poop.”)

Truth is, Baby Kimye and the Royal Baby will likely never cross paths, much as Kim would probably want her child to rub elbows with royalty. The simultaneous timing of their pregnancies will never stop amusing me, and I’m glad that Edwards highlighted that.

Of course, plenty of moms go the more normal route of bronzing their kids’ shoes or saving a lock of hair. But that’s yet another way that celebrities are different from us: Someone else will create a tribute to their kid, and they won’t even have to pay him!
