Baby Movie Matinees: Blockbuster Idea or No Thanks?

You have your ticket, your popcorn, your soda, and your Raisinets. But wait; don’t forget the baby stroller and the binky! Yep, it’s movie time and your little one is invited. In fact, you are encouraged to bring your babe with you as you sit and watch your favorite flick. There are some movie theaters across the country that actually have “Bring Your Baby Matinees.” The idea is just what it says; you can actually bring your baby with you without getting dirty looks and stares. This could be the answer if you don’t want to wait for that movie to come out on pay-per-view.

Or, if you’re like me, you may still be waiting. I love to see a movie in the theater just as much as the next momma, but I have mixed feelings about this. When I break the bank to cough up the expensive ticket price, I don’t want to hear my baby cry, never mind someone else’s. That’s the whole point of going to the movies. I want to escape for a couple of hours and be entertained. I don’t want to breastfeed, or make a bottle, or change a diaper. Call me selfish, but I just want some “Mom-ME” time to chill out with a friend or the hubs.

Although you won’t catch me making a run for this motion picture babypalooza, I can see why some women may like this. If you can’t get a sitter or really, really can’t wait for the movie to come out on DVD, this is probably for you. I’m sure it’s also a great way for moms to meet one another and build friendships.  But, for this momma, it’s a no go.

Have you gone to one of these movie matinees? Would you go if they were available near you?
