10 Crazy Celebrity Baby Names from 2017

Celebrities are notorious for choosing some, um, interesting names for their newborn babies. Who can forget Kal-El, Superman’s birth name and Nicolas Cage’s pick for his son in 2005? While their choices in 2017 weren’t too out there, some celebrities did go with slightly wacky names. Take a look and see what you think: are these crazy celebrity baby names, or just the sign of creative parents?

10 Crazy Celebrity Baby Names from 2017

  1. Golden: Nick Cannon (formerly Mr. Mariah Carey) picked this shiny one for his son with pageant contestant Brittany Bell.
  2. Zen: Here’s hoping actress Zoe Saldana’s son is a chill little guy; he’s got a lot of pressure to be peaceful and cool riding on his Buddhist-origin name.
  3. Sir: The son of Beyoncé and Jay-Z was already guaranteed respect and adoration, why require it by naming him Sir?
  4. Trulee: This name can almost (almost) be forgiven since it’s the work of a country music star (Lee Brice) for his daughter.
  5. Charlie Wolf: The first name is darling, but the middle name of Zooey Deschanel’s son with Jacob Pechenik seems like it’s trying a little too hard. It does match nicely with their daughter Elsie Otter, though.
  6. Sonny: It’s been used consistently for the past 100-plus years, but we just can’t believe little boys are happy to grow into men named Sonny, as Whitney Port chose for her baby boy.
  7. Sienna Princess: They did well with the first name. But we think Ciara and Russell Wilson might have been suffering from postpartum delusions when they elected to use Princess for their baby girl’s official middle name.
  8. Lazlo: We know this one is catching on a bit with hipster parents, but Lazlo just sounds like a serial killer’s name to us. Hopefully that won’t be the fate of actor Jason Biggs’ new baby boy!
  9. Strummer Newcomb: Did actress Julia Stiles name her baby after the Clash’s front man Joe Strummer? That could be cool… but combined with middle name Newcomb, this baby name is starting to sound like a new online retailer.
  10. Soltan: It’s honoring mama Asa Soltan Rahmati, which is a lovely move, but Jermaine Jackson, Jr.’s baby boy name is a little superhero-y for us.

What do you think of these celebrity name choices? Admittedly none is too nuts. Then again, maybe we’re all becoming more accustomed to crazy celebrity baby names! See the celebrity baby names we love from 2017 here.

I’m a married mom of two living in Seattle, WA. I have a eight-year-old little boy, a second grader! He’s a fairly reserved kid and all about Legos and Minecraft. I also have a little girl who turned four at the end of February. She’s a tiny thing but a big ham; we call her our clown. They’re a lot of work but also a ton of fun. I love to eat, cook, and run (in that order). But at the end of the day, give me a spot on the couch and a little bit of TV or a good book, I’m done!
