Do You Have a “Tech Tot”?
We’ve all heard it before, “Kids grow up so fast.” These days it seems as though it’s happening faster than ever. Many are logged on and tuned in, making for a generation of what I like to call “tech tots.” In fact, some new research claims that by the time they turn four, nearly half of all American kids will have already used a smart device like a tablet for kids. I guess you can just call it a sign of the times, but is it also a case of too much too soon? Not for a lot of companies that have bought a one way ticket to toddler technologyville. In fact, the “kiddie tablets” are expected to be one of the hottest gifts for the holiday season.
While I wouldn’t invest in one of these “kiddie tablets,” I have to say I don’t see anything wrong with little ones getting a little tech savvy. A lot of these tablets have some good learning games. I’ve always heard about how American kids lag behind kids in other countries when it comes to education. So, if there’s  a way to help make kids smarter and teach them while having some fun, then why not? Don’t we want our kids to be as smart as they can?
If you haven’t been able to tell, I allow my three-year-old daughter to play with my iPad and iPhone. I have to say she can work them better than some adults. It seems as though she’s actually learning something too. If modern technology can help educate our kids, what’s so wrong with that?
Do you allow your tots to play with technology? Do you think they are too little for technology?
