If Kate Middleton Has a Boy, Should Prince Harry Really Be His Role Model?

For the past two weeks we’ve been convinced that Kate Middleton is carrying a little princess in her womb, what with her accidental slip-up at a public event and then rumors that she and Prince William had chosen the name Alexandra. But there have also been rumors about Kate being interested in a lot of blue decorations… and now the UK’s The Mirror claims that it’s a boy. According to them, it’s Prince Harry who blurted the news.

Now, consider the source and the UK papers’ penchant for blowing every rumor out of proportion. But here’s the alleged scoop:

“Harry has been telling everyone Wills and Kate are having a boy and how thrilled he is at the prospect of having a little nephew. He said the whole family were excited about it. Apparently Kate has always wanted a boy. They’re really working hard on baby names now and think they have it sorted. But they won’t reveal anything to anyone–-not even Harry. Of course, Harry’s been making up crazy suggestions and winding them up too. The close inner circle all know that it’s a boy and they’re busily buying gifts with a boy theme. There will be an awful lot if blue in their house.”

Really, we’re not going to know for sure until Buckingham Palace makes the official announcement. But if Kate and Wills do welcome a little prince, is anyone else a little worried about Harry being his major role model (aside from his dad)? Forget him “blabbing” about the sex; most likely he said nothing of the sort. However, we do know plenty about his naked parties in Vegas, as he gamely takes up the carousing mantle now that Wills is completely settled down. (Not that William ever let his hair down, so to speak, all that much.)

As entertaining as royals are, we do expect a level of decorum from them. But when you strip away that expectation, it’s like most families. We’ve all got the embarrassing bachelor uncle, who seems leagues behind his sibling(s) in starting a family and who’s at a loss for how to interact with his nieces and nephews.

But who knows–maybe Harry will man up come July! Perhaps this little prince (or princess) will inspire a more paternal instinct in him.
