Jamie-Lynn Sigler Will Only Wear a Bikini When She’s Pregnant

Beautiful and talented actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who is pregnant with her first child, was quoted on People.com saying, “I would probably not be caught in a bikini otherwise, but when you’re pregnant, it is what it is! However your body’s carrying is how your body’s carrying.”

On one hand, I can totally understand what she’s saying – might as well let it all hang out while you can. But the first thing I thought when I read that quote was how sad it made me feel for her, and for women in general. Pregnancy is beautiful, and a big baby belly in a bikini is super cute, but what’s wrong with Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s non-pregnant body? Some people of course just feel more comfortable in a one-piece suit, but that’s not what this sounded like.

It sounds like she doesn’t like her body enough to bare it in a two-piece. I know we all have our insecurities, and Jamie-Lynn suffered from an eating disorder in the past, so she might have a harder time dealing with body issues than others. But I just wanted to hug her when I read this — and scream at the top of my lungs! She is gorgeous, pregnant or not, and she should feel that way. We all should!

Sure, some women look better than others in certain swimsuits, and some people are just born lucky with great genes – that’s life. But when a beautiful celebrity says she wouldn’t be caught in a bikini because her body doesn’t look right, she’s – intentionally or not – sending a message to other women (and young girls) that she is not good enough.

Self-loathing, especially among super-slim celebs, is getting old. I know there aren’t many women, celebrities or not, who would openly talk about how great they look in a bikini, even if they’re feeling uber-confident that day (okay, maybe Gwyneth would), but if they could just avoid putting themselves down, for the sake of the “regular” women reading the interview, that would be great. Don’t you agree?
