Interview with Zori Waxman, professional newborn photographer

We recently caught up with Zori Waxman, a Mom365 photographer at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania–her adorable photo of baby Lily won our June photo contest. Here’s what she’s got to say about newborn photography, tips for those starting out, and what she loves about her “dream job.”

What do you like best about newborn photography?
What I love best about newborn photography is that I get to experience the newborns first official professional photo-session.

How did you get interested in photography?
My entire life I have always loved taking pictures, so I took a photography class in school and fell in love with it. Now I finally found my dream job!

What was the most memorable baby photo you ever took?
I would have to say one of my memorable photos would have to be where I placed the baby girl in the sweet dreams pose (on her tummy) and I dressed her up with a lavender tutu. Gorgeous!

What are the three most important tips you’d share with a newborn photographer just starting out?
My three most important tips would be: 1) It’s all about the baby 2) Bond with the parents 3) Lighting is everything!

Have you ever developed a special relationship with a mom you were photographing?
Yes, I have developed a special relationship before. This amazing mom and I couldn’t stop having fun talking and we ended up good friends.

Do you have any children or grandchildren of your own?
I do not have any children but I do have four godchildren so they are like my own babies.

Where do you live?
I live very close to my dream job in Brookhaven PA.
