Ready for the Royal Baby?

Who’s excited for the arrival of the royal baby? That’s a trick question. Everyone is excited! However, if I were Kate Middleton, I would be a royal mess!

Kate is due any day now and according to People.com, there are already 60 photographers’ ladders in position, 40 feet from the steps of St. Mary’s hospital where Kate and William will first appear in public with their brand new bundle of joy. Parking has been suspended outside the hospital wing where the royal delivery will take place. William has taken time off from work. The birth announcement plans are in place. Wow. Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in a young couple’s life, but I wonder what it’s like when you know the ENTIRE WORLD is anticipating the birth of your child as if it were their own.

I like Kate and William. They seem like truly kind, down-to-earth folks. And yet they also seem quite comfortable being in the spotlight. I guess for William, it’s all he’s ever known, but Kate has just come into this. Sure, she supposedly had some training on how to deal with the pressures of the public life before the wedding of the century (which she managed to handle beautifully), but how can anyone really be prepared for this?

I can say it would not be for me. I could never handle that kind of pressure and scrutiny. Maybe Kate is just so super laid-back she doesn’t let it get to her, but I would be very anxious awaiting the arrival of my first baby and I wouldn’t want to be sharing every detail of my experience with the world.

Alas, this is what she signed up for when she agreed to marry William, and I guess love conquers all. I just hope that after the photographers get their shot and the people are satisfied with a glimpse and a name, Kate and Will are left alone for a bit to enjoy their new life as parents in peace. Although I’m sure it’ll only be a matter of time before we’re all over them again, wanting to know if Kate is expecting a spare.
