Should Expectant Moms Get Mother’s Day Gifts?

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and everywhere you look are ads for flower arrangements, spa certificates, DIY photo albums and custom jewelry. When you see those, do you wonder what you’ll get? Or do you wonder if you’ll get anything at all – that is, if  you’re pregnant for the first time and don’t actually have a baby on the outside yet?

I remember how tickled I was when my mother-in-law sent me a Mother’s Day card when I was pregnant with my now 3-year-old son, so every year I try to pass that kindness along. The first Mother’s Day after I’d had my baby, I wrote my own mom a long note about how much I appreciate everything she did for me when I was a baby (and beyond), and every year after that I’ve sent a few cards to mom friends who have helped me become a better mother by example.

Have you thought about it at all? Are you expecting a card or a gift for Mother’s Day this year?
