Tony Romo’s Secret Superhero Baby Name

His dad’s a Cowboy, but we’re betting he’ll be a little Hawk. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and his wife Candice Crawford welcomed a baby boy named Hawkins Crawford Romo on Monday April 9.

Hawkins, traditionally a surname, has never made the list of most popular baby names in the United States, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it sneak into the Top 100 Baby Names in the next few years.

The name Hawkins has all the trappings of a hit – preppy surname-turned-first name, a strong 2-syllable boys’ name with a slight twist on the uber-popular -n ending.

And most important, Hawkins is what we like to call a Clark Kent name, meaning it’s a name with a secret superhero identity hidden below its mild-mannered exterior.  You wouldn’t think of Hawkins – WASP-y buttoned-down, almost stuffy  – as a macho name till you unpack the macho nickname, Hawk. Hawk gets double bonus points for also being a macho nature name, like Fox and Talon.

What do you think of the name Hawkins?  Do you agree that this little boy is most likely to be known by his Superman alter-ego Hawk?
